One of the oldest forms of contract is shaking hands. From this grew handfasting, the tradition of binding a couple's hands to symbolise their vows to each other. Although it has no legal standing, it can be a powerful and evocative ritual as part of a wedding or commitment ceremony. In the past the couple would keep their bindings for the whole day, but not many couples now would elect to do that: fairly limiting for the photos! Here is the handfasting I did with Lucinda and Chris as part of their wedding in March.
